i need a piece of wood preferably 40″ by 20″. I would liek to go to home depot to get it.. Lowes is a last option.

Yes they do and they will even cut it to size for free at Home Depot
Uhhhh…going by those measurements, they do have what you want in various forms of plywood, but not huge selections of it. Both stores are pretty much limited to oak and maple plywood or just regular mdf which will come in your standard thicknesses. depending on what you are doing, one of those may be just fine. If you need something else - birch, cherry, etc. - you’ll have to go to a lumberyard.
Yes, of course. Don’t forget to use a coupon. Look for competitor’s coupons, too. Both stores will take each others’ coupons.
