lowes
bj asked:

I need to replace my chain drive garage door opener. Does anyone have any opinion on the Chamberlain model 248735 from Lowes? Also did you have Lowes install your opener?
Thanks for any help

I have 2 of them. One is by Genie and the other is Craftsman chain drive. I like the Genie better because it is quieter and smoother.
I woulds stick with these 2 because of all the junk that is coming from Red China right now. I don’t know if the brand you mentioned is from Red China or not.
But it isnt worth the chance. Been using mine for years with no problems.

If you are replacing an old one it isn’t to hard to do. If it a new install let them do it for the warranty.

Chamberlain makes almost all the garage door openers out there. They make them for Sears as well as Lowes and also sell them under the Liftmaster brand. So I don’t think you’ll go wrong.

One thing to consider is where your garage is located. I have a garage under the house and I installed a belt drive model with battery backup (on one side). Very quiet compared to the chain drive.

Chamberlain is on of two major opener manufactures now. It includes lift master and craftsmen. They tend to be less expensive but have carried the same problems through the years. The photo-eyes like to go bad after a few years and the gear kit that they use needs to be replaced every 5-7 years depending on the frequency of use. The 3/4 hp model is a belt drive so it runs more quite but the belt is not as sturdy as a chain.
For the record Overhead products are currently made in the United States.
