lowes
scanjet asked:

I notice at Lowes the staff tend to be of a younger crowd and are far less experienced. They also seem to have a nasty attitude and don’t know every much as well. In Home Depot the staff are of an older generation and when they tell you things it comes from their years of exp rather then something that came from a book. Home Depot also hires electricians, plumbers etc…. The staff are much more freindly and don’t act cockey and upity.

I think it has a lot more to do with the hiring practices of eahc particular store. Where I’m at It’s the oposite. I go to Home Depot and DJ Jazzy Trevor would rather tell me that they don’t carry something than put down his cell phone and actually assist me with something.

Here in Texas ( small town) both are the same.Costumer service is a pain in the neck. They don’t care. Why they should?.Salaries are not good and the moral is to low.Don’t blame the personnel, blame the corporation.

Usually I do my own research for repair and project problems and ideas. I am weary to take the advice of most of the employees at the hardware stores. Every once in awhile you will run into someone that knows what they are talking about - usually the ones in the paint department, home decorating department (carpet, flooring, cabinets, etc.) know what they are talking about - but they are in a specialized department. My husband and I have gotten tickled at some of the advice we have gotten from some of the hardware store employees - and then at other times we have gotten some really great help from the ones that work in a specialized area. The other day we bought a new door knob/lock and the lady in that department really knew a lot about all of the brands and what we needed (but she was specialized to that one area - she worked at the key cutting counter)

sweetie, i have no idea what the problem is at lowes, but i was treated rude! i am only 5″1 and 112 pounds, i had to load my own electric fire place!, plus i had to wait way to long just to ask a question about it. do these people working not know without the custorer , they have no job? and this is not the only time this has happend in lowes. i wish we had a home depot where i live. good luck and GOD BLESS.

You must not go to the same Home Depot I do!!

I STRONGLY recommend trying to find a small lumber yard / remodeling shop to answer you r questions. They are more willing to be practical, and less likely to sell you something you don’t need.
